Gayle was born and raised in East Meadow, NY, where she graduated from East Meadow High School in 1970. She became an AS Registered Nurse through Dutchess Community College and she graduated from SUNY at New Paltz, NY with a BS in Psychology
Gayle began as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician with the new Paltz Rescue Squad in 1975, and she was the co-founder (with her husband Nick) of Mobile Life Support Services, Inc., an emergency and non-emergency ambulance service covering Hudson Valley, NY.
Gayle was a Paramedic and Vice President, functioning in administrative and emergencymedical capacities until 1999, when her husband, Rick Metzger, died suddenly. She then became Chief Executive Officer until 2023 when the company was sold.
During her tenure as CEO, Mobile Life grew to employ over 325 Paramedics, EMT’s and ancillary personnel. We responded to over 300 calls per day covering seven counties in the Hudson Valley, NY. They were the primary 911 provider for Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Kingston and Middletown and provided mutual aid and hospital to hospital transport service for 7 hospitals in the region.
Gayle has authored and copyrighted two emergency service programs: “Kid-Care”, a 4 hour CPR and first-aid booklet and training program for parents, siblings, and babysitters of small children, teaching them what to do until the ambulance arrives, and “MICP: Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic”, a 20 week training program for paramedics in ICU and CCU Nursing procedures and equipment to enhance their transport capabilities for critical care transports.
Gayle retired in 2023 and is still contemplating future endeavors. She enjoys reading, gardening, a little golf, some sewing, dining out, and a good Martini.
