Dave earned a BS in math education in 1988, an MS in math in 1990, and a PhD in math in 1995, all from Bowling Green State University. After two years at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, he accepted a tenure-track position at Miami University in Hamilton, OH in 1997. Dave earned tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2002, and remained at Miami until May of 2019.
Dave’s first three publications were self-published through Proficient Publishing, which he established with a college friend in 1999. In 2004, he began writing for McGraw-Hill Higher Education and Wiley Publishing, eventually signing an exclusivity agreement with McGraw-Hill. Overall, Dave has written or co-authored 20 books. Dave travels extensively to speak at conferences and on college campuses, and has worked as a consultant for one state and a large community college system. His books are currently used at colleges in nearly every state.
While at Miami University, Dave started collecting items for Shared Harvest Food Bank in Fairfield, OH in his classes at the end of each semester. This eventually turned into a campus-wide food drive that he ran for 15 years, collecting 80,000 pounds of food and over $10,000 in cash. Based on these efforts, Dave was invited to sit on the board of directors at Shared Harvest, a position he held for over six years. He has also been active in raising money for other charities, most notably the ALS society, which holds special significance to the family.
Dave decided to step down from his tenured position at Miami University in 2019 to allocate more time to writing, and relocated to southwest Florida at that time. This coincided with the incorporation of Doctor S Corp, the business through which he now actively writes. Dave resides in North Port, FL with his wife of 25 years, Cat.
